About Henschke’s Hill of Grace Vineyard –
As one of Australia’s oldest family-owned wineries, Henschke has been making wine for over 150 years in the Barossa’s Eden Valley. Established in 1868, Henschke is resolute in its desire for complete integration of vineyard and winery, through six generations of family grape growing and winemaking tradition in the Eden Valley, Barossa Valley and Adelaide Hills.
Hill of Grace features century-old shiraz vines originally brought from France’s Hermitage region, representing rare survivors of the phylloxera outbreak that destroyed most European vineyards in the 1800s.
The vineyard’s six oldest blocks produce the flagship Hill of Grace Shiraz, while younger plantings create additional single-vineyard wines released only in exceptional seasons. The oldest vines, called “The Grandfathers,” are over 155 years old and dry-grown, producing small, intensely flavored berries that give the wine its signature elegance and complexity.
